Don't wait until you are dead to find your spirit-it's gone
Simple connections to your spirit connect you better to the world
It is 2 minutes from the end of your life.
Your time is up.
What thoughts run through your mind?
Do you think about the people that you leave behind?
Our relationships define us. The people we love and surround ourselves with are the people we remember most.
But we think even more of the things we left undone.
Did I tell my family I loved them enough?
Did I accomplish my dreams?
Why did I wait?
<Snaps fingers> What an exercise huh?
“Do you really want to look back on your life and see how wonderful it could have been had you not been afraid to live it?”
― Caroline Myss
I read about this in a book. I was terrified of it. Nobody wants to picture themselves dead.
I did the exercise. It took quite a bit of imagination, but I got there.
I loved my relationships with people. So many amazing people touched my life. I always told them they were important, and petty squabbles didn't break these relationships.
I checked things off my bucket list.
I walked away from a job I hated and spent two years doing all the things that I loved. I took music lessons from a college professor, learned the piano, and wrote with a passion. Most importantly, I loved my soul to heal by facing fear, anxiety, and trauma.
My regrets? What should you have made time for?
I didn't push my writing harder. I didn't become a tarot reader. That last fight with my spouse. It was over something stupid.
The regrets weighed heavy. They gave me focus. The mind chatter shuts off, and you are left with truths.
Time isn’t a commodity
We imagine we have all the time in the world. There are infinite tomorrows. What I don’t have time for today, I can do latter.
But I realized something even more important.
It only seems at death that we take an honest look at things in our lives.
No matter which question I addressed, I realized everything was about my connection to the world around me.
My connection to spirit.
When my spirit was strong, my connection to the world was strong. I took action and did things I was proud of.
If my connection was weak, then I felt fractured. My fear, anxiety, and my ego governed everything. I didn't want to be a part of this world anymore.
Spirit is the life force of the universe. The quantum energy that connects everything.
Spirit practice connecting your life force to everything else.
This is our spiritual practice. Our spirituality. Pretty simple really.
Spirituality doesn't have to be vague
Spirituality is an ugly word.
It doesn't mean you are in a temple somewhere away from the rest of the world.
Or you are sitting inside a heavy incensed room where it is dark. Or attending church every week.
None of these things apply.
Spirituality is nothing more than the practice of spirit.
Spirit is just the connection to the world.
So a spiritual practice is something that helps you connect better to reality.
A spiritual person is someone who wants the best connection to the world.
What you think you see
How is everything different when you look at this minute and compare it to the 2 minutes from death?
Is your connection to everything around you on autopilot, or is there a clear focus?
How well do you see your life?
It depends on how well your mind or ego gets out of the way. Whatever frame of mind you are in, so is your worldview.
Are you angry or sad? Fearful or doubtful? Your brain makes sure this is what you see. My brain is like yours. It takes what I think and finds evidence of it.
This is where our stories come from. They are the things that happened to us.
Everything that happens to us and gets stored in our body.
Mind and body connection
According to Carolyn Myss "Our biography becomes our biology."
Our stories were the traumas we suffered, our experiences, and everything else that was a part of us.
My mind and body talk with each other.
They were not pleasant conversations.
It was really an ongoing argument.
There was no agreement between them. My brain would lead, and the body wouldn’t follow. It felt like a civil war.
Then I learned about life force.
The life force has consciousness. My atoms talk to each other and to the other atoms around them.
Where it goes wrong
Quantum mechanics shows that, at some level, we are all made up of energy and exchange energy with everything else.
This energy can get clogged.
All the hurt, mindset connections, ego, and anything that gets between you and the world. This includes fear, anxiety, and other feelings.
This also reflects the connection to the world because we use our bodies to interact with it.
If it is in your brain, you can bet it's in your body somewhere. Fight or flight. The brain senses something, and the body prepares for it.
You feel something brush your leg in bed. Immediately, the body alerts the brain, and action is taken. (Hopefully, not a spider.)
Taking care of the spirit
This is why a spiritual practice is necessary.
To get the toxic out.
“I am convinced that the deepest desire within each of us is to be liberated from the controlling influences of our own psychic madness or patterns of fear. All other things—the disdain of ordinary life, the need to control others rather than be controlled, the craving for material goods as a means of security and protection against the winds of chaos—are external props that serve as substitutes for the real battle, which is the one waged within the individual soul.”
― Caroline Myss
The more we heal this toxin, the clearer we see the world around us. If our molecules are healthy, they are better able to talk to others. These form energy strands.
We connect to everything through energy strands or quantum fields.
If this energy is not taken care of, then we leak energy. We stay connected to unhealthy or toxic people. You absorb energy from them, and you also give energy away.
Every spiritual practice is done to clean, heal, or repair the damage. You interact in the world differently. Examples of spiritual techniques and how they work might look like this:
Tarot cards give you images and symbols to make sense of the world. It also helps you make sense of your own mind.
Mindfulness practice is not about doing anything but accepting the world in front of you.
Rituals help mark your place in time. We do daily rituals that depend on the time of the day we are in. Rituals that mark the season of the world or the sun of the year keep you grounded and where you are.
Energy work helps clean the energy and fill holes or leaks that happen. If your energy is intense, you interact much better with the world.
Mindset tools are pretty self-explanatory. If your mind is as clear as you can make it, then you see the world as clearly as you can.
Self-actualization.
Tools help you to really get to know yourself better and be more honest in your interactions with the world.
Body movement helps keep the energy of the body working or flowing so you get optimal interaction.
What healing looks like
I started out like everyone else.
I had enough stories to fill several books.
I found the greatest healing of my life on a whim. I had just moved to a new town from the city, and I felt this was a huge mistake.
I was thinking about suicide.
I was not only miserable from the move, but I was also hurting inside from years of stories. Every molecule inside of me was hurting.
I was making friends slowly. I met someone who was setting up new spiritual healing school. She needed to test it out.
I was bored so I said I would be a guinea pig.
I joked I would maybe get some cool Native American Shields out of it.
It was awkward and the tools didn’t do much. Until the life review.
I scoffed at this.
Then I tried it.
I never looked back when I realized how much healing this brought.
I ended up with 47 pages of my life. I burned it, and it was gone. Or the start of it was gone.
She flaked on me. But I kept going.
Somehow I found the tools. I tried everything I could get my hands on. I was healing and noticed my atoms didn’t hurt anymore.
I have never stopped. There is always another level of things.
It can be done
I am proof that healing is possible.
As far as you want to take it.
I look at reality without anxiety, fear or my ego fogging my vision.
It’s not perfect. I still feel the intense emotions. But with most of the past stories erased, it’s just current things.
I started small, but it grew bigger and bigger as I decided I wanted more healing. It is my new obsession.
It’s never too late. Unless you are dead. Then you won’t care.
Take a step for yourself. Even a small one.
Success is the sum of small efforts - repeated day in and day out.
Robert Collier
Strengthen your spirit, and the world becomes a better place.
Nice!! I have had to read so much with my new job that I decided to listen to you/this instead.
There were some insightful sentences that jumped out at me that I have to retrieve in the article. You're bang on with this one Linda!
You’ve given me things to think about, as usual. From the age of four and up, my life has been, and continues to be ruled by fear.
